Holyoke, Massachusetts. It is less well known that beach volleyball was rumored to be first played in 1915 at the Outriggers Canoe Club in Waikiki, Hawaii, and became an Olympic Sport in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. The beginnings of turf volleyball are less well defined, but in the last few years has taken off for matches on both natural grass and
artificial turf.
